![]() ![]() Long years of adversity and failure might characterise Hitler's pre-chancellorial background it hardly does Churchill's. ![]() Roberts states: "The key attribute shared by both men was an almost superhuman tenacity of purpose that they held onto throughout their long years of adversity and failure." And Hitler's propensity to appear in simple dress among the splendid plumage of other Nazi potentates is compared with Churchill's efforts at a signature appearance with homburgs and cigars. There must be a parallel in that they both liked music (Hitler liked classical music, particularly Wagner Churchill liked military music and Gilbert and Sullivan). There are few, if any, parallels in the life and leadership styles of Churchill and Hitler, and Roberts is often forced to go to absurd lengths to establish them. Roberts is a good historian but he has had a hopeless paradigm imposed on him by this being a reference book for a BBC television series of the same title. ![]()
